Why You Shouldn’t Have a Construction Job

Construction worker salary and benefits can vary greatly depending on the type of job you’re doing.

But here are some basic rules to keep in mind when you’re considering a career in construction.

Construction workers typically make about $10 per hour, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But there are some caveats.

The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.

You must be 25 years old or older to qualify for overtime.

And some employers don’t pay overtime, according the Bureau.

For example, you could be paid $8 an hour for hours worked over 35 hours per week.

Your employer must also provide at least one paid sick leave policy, which is a benefit that lets workers take time off to care for a sick child or a seriously ill family member.

Also, the federal minimum hourly wage is currently $8.25, but employers are still required to pay at least half of their employees the federal standard wage of $7 per hour for all workers.

Some employers also offer bonuses for good performance, according a 2011 BLS study.
