A man who fatally shot an intruder at a Texas home has been charged with aggravated assault, officials said Monday.
The arrest came less than a week after a woman in the town of Waco was found dead in her own driveway, where she’d been shot twice in the head.
The Waco Police Department said officers responded to the home after receiving a report of an armed man in the backyard, who they believed had a firearm.
When officers arrived, the homeowner, who identified herself as a woman, told them she had been shot.
She died from her wounds.
The police report said the homeowner told them that she had come home and noticed a man who was not her boyfriend with a gun at the front door, the Associated Press reported.
The homeowner told officers that she did not know why the man was there.
When officers asked the man why he was there, he told them he had a gun, the report said.
The woman told police that the man asked her if he could “see my gun,” but she said she did see him and he left.
Officers were able to track the man down and arrested him.
