A new construction site is opening in downtown Dayton, a move that could usher in a major revamp of the Turner Broadcasting Building and its historic home.

Construction on the new Turner Broadcasting property, known as the Turner & Jones building, started last month.

The new site, located at the intersection of Hines Street and Westheimer Avenue, is a new project that will include a new headquarters for Turner Broadcasting, said Mark W. Smith, president and CEO of the Dayton Economic Development Corp.

The company will have the opportunity to take over the building in 2019, Smith said.

The building has been vacant since it closed in 1999.

Smith said that construction has been going at a good pace and the site is currently undergoing major renovations.

Smith hopes to see the new project come to fruition by the end of this year.

Smith would not provide a timeframe for when the project would be complete, but he said it could be in the next few years.

He said the company will also start moving the company’s headquarters to the new location.

Smith added that the Turner Building has been a tenant at the site since 1996.
